Overview
Docs Comment Exporter is a Chrome extension that exports comment threads from Google Docs. We are committed to your privacy. This policy explains what data is accessed, how it is used, and what we do not do.
What data the extension accesses
When you use the extension, it accesses the following information:
- The active Google Docs document URL (to extract the file ID)
- Comment data from the Google Drive API for the active document
- Your Google account identity (for API authentication only)
The extension only accesses data when you explicitly click the export button. No background data collection occurs.
How data is processed
All comment data is fetched from Google's API and processed locally in your browser. No comment content, author information, or document data is transmitted to any external server operated by us. The extension functions entirely client-side.
Data storage
The extension may store your OAuth token temporarily in Chrome's local storage to avoid repeated sign-ins. This token is managed by Chrome's identity API and can be revoked at any time via your Google Account settings. No comment data or document content is persisted in storage.
Third-party services
The extension communicates with the following external services:
- Google Drive API (googleapis.com) — to fetch comments from your documents
- Google OAuth 2.0 — for authenticating your Google account
- Lemon Squeezy (lemonsqueezy.com) — for license key validation when you activate a Pro license. Only your license key is sent; no comment data or document content is transmitted.
We do not embed analytics, advertising SDKs, or any other external scripts.
What we do NOT do
- We do not sell your data
- We do not collect analytics
- We do not store comment data on any server
- We do not access documents you have not explicitly opened for export
- We do not request write permissions
Permissions explanation
The following Chrome and host permissions are declared in the extension manifest:
- identity: Required for Google OAuth authentication to access the Drive API on your behalf
- storage: Stores user preferences (such as default export format) locally in your browser
- activeTab: Reads the URL of the current tab to detect the Google Doc file ID
- https://docs.google.com/*: Allows the extension to detect when you are on a Google Docs page
- https://www.googleapis.com/*: Required to call the Google Drive Comments API to retrieve comment threads
